Product Definition Successful products begin with clear
definitions of objectives, features and performance. The definition should include
non-technical aspects such as target product cost, introduction date and any
mandatory regulatory submissions. We can help crystallise your idea and, if
needed, offer advice about technological feasibility, alternative
realisations and possible extensions of your idea to take full advantage of
the capabilities of current technology.

Notes from a brain-storm
session, 20 Oct 2001 1 The product volumes are
expected to be approximately 200/yr, maybe up to 500/yr if the cost can be
kept below £120/unit. 2 The original goal of 1000
records can be increased to 4000 at no extra cost. 3 Networking facilities will add
significantly to the development time and the benefit is not clear. This
requirement has been dropped from the initial product definition. 4 Physical size is important:
the PCB maximum dimensions are 100 x 150mm. Multilayer PCB is acceptable, and
surface mount technology is preferred. 5 Battery life must exceed 3
months (from 2 x AA dry cells). 6 The product must provide for
a "backdoor" method of restoring a default password. This will not
be evident to the user. 7 Simple Windows software will
be provided to ease initial product evaluation, but this software will not be a saleable product. 8 The first example products
MUST be available for demonstration at a Trade Show in Essen. Exact dates
unknown, but likely to be mid May 2002. |
